SEPTEMBER 6 - REST DAY IN LIMA

After a nice long sleep in a clean bed, we had a great (and quiet) breakfast on the top floor of the hotel.  The breakfast room is small, so don't know what it will be like when the whole crowd is here tomorrow.

Off the the main plaza in the old town (Plaza de Armas).  The architecture is stunning - gorgeous colonial buildings everywhere.  Also, there was some sort of ceremony going on - apparently changing of the guard. Here's a few of our gazillion photos,  the starting with the Cathedral

Beautiful wooden balcony

Library (used to be the main railway station)

Pigeons loved this one

Some of the horses & their riders in the ceremony

The band

Chris!!!!

I could go on & on but we'll leave that plaza and show you a shot or two from the nearby Plaza San Martin (no relation)

Lunch in a restaurant in the plaza, then back to the hotel in the afternoon.  It's Sunday, so most of the services are closed.  We find one self serve laundromat open, so taxi over to it.  While our laundry is in the dryer we hit a chocolate factory across the street for yummy goodies.

Back to the hotel (late afternoon now) the rest of the cyclists have arrived.  They had to convoy in - the cyclists are all in a group, between the two trucks and a guide vehicle.  Apparently, it went smoothly.  We'll have to convoy out as well.

Over to Kennedy Plaza for Pisco Sours (love 'em), Ceviche, & pizza.  The Ceviche may be doing a number on my digestion (too much info!), but we'll worry about that later.

Tomorrow includes bike maintenance, some prep for the next chunk of cycling & hopefully some more sightseeing.
