Sometimes you have a day where things just don't work out. Today was one of those; not that anything terrible happened, but here's a sampling:
-We were both a bit groggy getting up; perhaps altitude and anticipation were taking their toll.
-The local coffee shop (Coffee & Sweet) wasn't open. Today is a holiday - worse than a Sunday.
-We walked around, found some open shops. That was good.
-Coffee & Sweet was open by 11:00, but they couldn't make hot water. Still no coffee.
-We took a taxi to El Teleferico - a cable car to the top of one of the local mountains. The taxi driver stiffed me for the fare - he didn't have the correct change so he got a $3 tip on a $10 fare.
-The lineup for the cable car was so bad we walked around and gave up. Every person in Quito had the day off and wanted a view of the city from on top.
-The taxi fare back was $5. Good! But, it made being stiffed worse.
-We went back to the hotel and gave up.
Enough whining - some photos:
Red Light Jugglers. They have to be off the street when the light changes or they get run over.
A view of Quito from as high as we got - 3130 meters.
A nice old church. No signs so we know nothing about it.
The tour bus with the luggage arrives, Everybody is here now. There is a meeting tomorrow for the "Newbies" and a general tour meeting later.
