So, the plan today was 170 km to Limon to get back on schedule. The tour crew
recognized that lots of people wouldn't make it, so they would be prepared to pick lots of us up.
Off we go at first light (0630). By the way it rained last night so we had to pack up a wet tent. I've learned a thing or two about camp etiquette: There ain't none insofar as good tent spots are concerned. First barge in, first gets, whicc is why we weren't under cover.
I'll digress for a moment and show a couple more shots from the resort yesterday.
Here's the owner's pet. I don't know the details, but I assume he is a local.
First photo on the road today - a Pa Pa Tree (sp?)
Yellow flowers (related to Daisies?) along the road.
A house along the way: note that is doesn't have any windows, but probably has a satellite dish.
Ian: translate this and you can have a teaching job down here at this school!
Nice little school. This one even has windows (some don 't)
As we entered Macas one of the tour staff flagged us down and told us plans have changed again. The was a road blocking protest in town. We were redirected to a new lunch spot where we waited for the new plan. Here's Katrina fooling about with one of the soldiers.
Here we are waiting, listening to news about Ecuador's political and financial situation (both bad and getting worse).
Off we go again, with a revised plan. Go to a camp at km 140 instead of 170 km. A view along the way, from a park (note the flamingos).
Another shot, showing the layering of the canopies.
The truck comes by again - plans have changed once more. We are now going to the Mendez fairgrounds at 129 km. We're all under cover and we have one cold shower for forty odd(?) riders and 10 staff.
I forgot to take daytime photos, so here is a
night one. Note that our tent is front & centre - I'm learning!
