Nice to have a day off after the first 3 days. There was a dinner & party last night; unfortunately about people came down with the heaves & poops, Laura included. The best guess is a mild sort of food poisoning. Everybody is on the mend today.
A comment about the tour staff: there are 8 of them. Two females, one is a general surgeon and the other is a nurse. As well there is another nurse and doctor touring, so we are well provided for medical support. Other staff include Christiano (the coordinator), Mark the cook, Britten, a bike mechanic and two others. I'll get the names all straight by the end of the tour.
With Laura taking it easy I hiked about town. A couple of building pictures.
To be honest, the town is not exciting, at least the section I saw. A cloudy, dull day doesn't help. No steady rain except for a few showers. The river adjacent the resort is way down today.
Two photos of the town square. This is the first I remember having so many flowers. Generally they were mostly lawn and larger trees.
Now, a pair from the grounds of the hostaria. I apologize for having no idea what any of the plants are. I'm not much beyond pretty red plant, pretty green plant, etc.
While I was working on our bikes some of the nearby tour staff noticed a large (2" diameter), black and rather hairy spider. Sorry, I didn't get a picture of it.
Getting up at 5 a.m. for tomorrow's ride - 130 km. That's just shy of Nanoose to Victoria. Laura is taking the day off and will ride with the staff in the buses.
